The Poughkeepsie Latin School
The Poughkeepsie Latin School is an academy -- founded and operated by the Latin Mass Society of the Hudson Valley, and hosted by Holy Trinity Parish, Poughkeepsie -- whose mission is to enhance the capacity of the Catholic faithful to participate fruitfully in traditional Latin Catholic liturgy.
WHEN Fall 2024 Semester Starts on SEPTEMBER 11, 2024 Classes are Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m.
WHERE Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603
NEW LOCATION: Classes this Fall will be held in the Holy Trinity School Building, adjacent to the Church. Park in the upper parking lot (on the right, or east, side of the Church), and use the east entrance to the School Building, which is readily visible from the parking lot.
PROGRAM OF INSTRUCTION
The Wednesday evening sessions will be devoted exclusively to instruction in Latin grammar and Church Latin. As we grow together in our knowledge of Latin vocabulary and grammar we will be learning prayers, hymns, scripture and parts of the Mass in Latin.
The musical component of the Latin School has crystallized in a Gregorian Chant "Schola" (choir) serving Holy Trinity parish. We sing Gregorian Chant for Holy Mass and Divine Office
(e.g., Vespers and Compline) at the parish. We meet to rehearse as needed. Anyone wishing to learn Gregorian Chant is welcome to audition for the Schola.
NOTA BENE: In the Fall 2024 we anticipate that there will be new students who are beginners in Latin as well as returning students who have acquired some proficiency. If you are interested in joining the Latin class in September 2024 ~ either as a new student or a continuing student ~ please let us know via email ~ [email protected] ~ and we will reach out to you.
TUITION
